The architecture is well worth seeing as is its stained glass windows with their ancient history. Situated Inside the Cathedral is the tombstone of Owain Gwynedd, one of Wales's Renowned Princes.
The City of Bangor is in Gwynedd, North Wales and its surrounding districts consists of Llanberis and Bethesda, which are situated on the outskirts of the Snowdonia National Park, which contains the Snowdonia mountain range and the highest mountain in Wales called Snowdon which is 1085 meters above sea level. On the opposite side of the Menai Straits to Bangor and Caernarfon is the Isle of Anglesey, which is referred to by the Welsh people as 'Anglesey the Mother of Wales'. This island is connected to the mainland by two bridges - the Menai Suspension Bridge built by Thomas Telford in 1826 and the Britannia Bridge which was designed by Robert Stevenson.
Situated about 7 miles from Bangor is the Royal Borough of Caernarfon. The main attraction in Caernarfon is the Castle which is situated at the centre of one of Wales's Welshest towns and is known as the most famous castle in Wales. The castle was built in 1283 and took 37 years to build. Edward I designed the castle to commemorate his victory over Llywelyn Prince of Wales. Six hundred years after the castle was built it was used for the Investiture Ceremony of Prince Edward in 1911, and on 1st July, 1969 the present Prince of Wales, Prince Charles, was invested there by his mother (Queen Elizabeth II, the present Queen of England) as Prince of Wales.
At Caernarfon Square the monument of David Lloyd George, from Llanystumdwy in Eifionydd (Past-Prime Minister) stands. At the age of 27 he was elected Conservative Member of Parliament for Caernarfon Borough in the 1890 Bi-election and remained in this seat for 55 years. During this time he was elected Prime Minister from 1916 to 1922.
